Shameful promotion....(hopefully helps other foster parents out there)

Well, not really shameful promotion. Tonight I'm taking some time to share a discovery that I hope will benefit others as much as it has us.

As foster parents, there are many stringent safety & security requirements that at times can seem overwhelming. One particular safety rule is that all medications (prescription and OTC) are required to be locked at all times. When we were first going through the foster certification process, I admit this seemed a cumbersome & at times frustrating rule, in that it "inconvenienced" me more than I liked. I know, here's a good time for that whomp upside the head from God. Please note, I did not say we refused to do this, I am simply being honest in my feelings (whether justified or not).

Our solution to meet the requirement was to put a cabinet in our bedroom, and using a combination lock. It worked, just not as simply as we would prefer.

It's been almost 2 years now since we did our home study for foster care certification.
Last week, I stumbled upon a lock that we decided to try. Barring anything unforeseen, that sucker has a new permanent home!

While the lock itself may seem a bit odd (evidenced by the picture above), I will personally attest to the joy & relief from frustration this little device has provided.

The simple operation of this lock is beautiful! No, I am in no way affiliated with Master Lock, nor do I receive any promotional considerations. I figure it's only fitting to maybe help others who may suffer from the same frustrations I experience in dealing with opening locks with combinations, letters, numbers, etc. My aging eyes aren't what they used to be, so this little beauty is a huge blessing when needing to open it in the dark.

Here's a link to the info on their website:

I found mine at Menards, but I'm sure there are other retailers that carry this lock.

At the extremely reasonable cost of $7 for a new lock, it's worth every penny spent.

Go ahead, I'm sure some of you are smirking at my excitement and enthusiasm over a simple lock. Can't wait to hear from you once you've tried it, and are as stoked as I am.
